Preparing for Birth

Class one:

Birth psychology: birth culture and our society, how to achieve the birth you want, and conquering fears. The birth place: hospital or out-of-hospital and issues of safety. Midwifery: its herstory and the model of care in Alberta. Pain in childbirth: is it necessary? Coping strategies i.e. waterbirth. Prenatal parenting and bonding with your unborn child. Keepsake tips.

Class Two:

Labour & Birth: a complicated hormonal interplay and how to avoid dysfunctional labour and “failure to progress”. Signals leading to birth. The 6 stages of progress. What to expect and what your partner can do to help you cope and comfort measures. Supplies needed, helpers and who to invite. Labour and immediate postpartum food. How to prepare children for birth and siblings. Photography and videography tips.

Class Three:

What you didn’t know about eye drops, vitamin K, circumcision, vaccinations. Adjustment to the newborn: temperament, sleeping. Postpartum recovery: lochia, perineal healing, rest, nutrition, sex and birth control.. Use of alternative therapies for family and self. Breastfeeding physiology, benefits, getting started, overcoming common difficulties. Babywearing, Elimination Communication, non-verbal communication of the newborn, parenting styles.

18 hours $150.00 (includes a $150 gift certificate towards doula care or homebirth)


Prenatal Yoga

The Prenatal Yoga Sessions are designed with the health and comfort of both you and your baby in mind.  The poses will help to reduce pain in the lower back, hips and legs in addition to helping you maintain good posture throughout your pregnancy.  These gentle stretches will also help you prepare for the birth by toning the pelvic floor, allowing for fewer complications and enhanced postpartum healing.


Start anytime

An ongoing Ashtanga yoga inspired class for women who wish to try yoga for the first time or keep their existing practice going throughout pregnancy. The classes focus on breathing techniques, strength building and maintaining flexibility as well as providing helpful information on pregnancy, labour and childbirth. No prior yoga experience is necessary.

Postnatal Yoga

Post Natal Yoga (Preregistered):
Next class TBA. Cost $75 (incl babysitting)

An on going pre-registered class for post natal women to rebuild abdominals, pelvic and overall strength. The style is Vinyasa flow, which aims to link asanas in a flowing sequence, promoting sweat, strength and rebuilding stamina. There are babysitting facilities available for this class. No prior yoga experience is necessary. Suitable from 6 weeks postpartum. Also open to anyone.
